There is a lot going on in this chart! The bulk of the immigration into the United States is coming from Ireland, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Russia and Austria. I think all of this makes a lot of sense. Starting in the 1820's through the start of the 1880's, many Irish immigrated to the United States due to the Potato Blight (Famine) that effect the Irish but also the rest of Europe. Ireland was hit the hardest. You are seeing the after effects of this famine and people are still immigrating to the United States in search of a better life. At the start of the 1880's you see a lot of people from Germany, Hungary and Austria immigrating to the United States. During the 1880's there were a lot of wars going on in Europe. This is also the rise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. They had a Dual Monarchy between 1867 and 1918. During this time many wars were going on all over Europe and Northern Africa.
This is an interesting chart because from 1870 until right before the start of World War I in Europe the bulk of countries percapita GDP was on the rise. It makes sense that percapita GDP took a substantial hit during the start of World War I in Europe.
Life expectancy overall amongst these countries in this chart were on the rise except for when World War I ("The War to End all Wars") started in 1917 in Europe. This makes perfect sense that a major world war would in fact impact the life expectancy of many of the nations involved in Europe. No surprise here!
This chart is very interesting - despite several wars between 1880 through to the start of World War I the overal population by country was steadily increasing. The cost of war was not enough to influence the increase in population of countries around the world - especially those in Europe. This is surprising.
